Make Your Own Sugar on Snow

Since the early 1980s, Fuller’s Sugarhouse has continued the longstanding maple producers’ tradition of serving sugar on snow during Maple Weekend. It’s an easy-to-make treat that you can serve in any season.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Pure maple syrup (Fuller’s Sugarhouse syrup is best), about 1/4 c. per person
  • A pan or dish of clean snow to cool the maple syrup (the snow is not meant to be eaten). Crushed or shaved ice may be used if snow is not available.

Instructions:
Put the amount of maple syrup desired in a heavy pot. Boil slowly to approximately 232 degrees F. A little butter onto the rim of the pot will help to prevent it from boiling over. Test for readiness by dropping small amounts onto a pan of snow or ice. The syrup should stay on top of the surface.

When the maple syrup is ready, put some in a heat-proof pitcher and drizzle it over the prepared snow on the pan or dish, moving quickly to different areas of the dish. Use a fork and lift the chewy delicacy from the snow. It can be wound around the fork like spaghetti. Traditionally it’s served with sour pickles to cut the sweetness, and saltines or plain doughnuts. Enjoy!

The 2017 Maple Season has begun!

Tapping the Trees for Liquid Gold

Maple sap is clear.

The rec Sugarhouse has been busy tapping trees and collectient mild daytime temperatures and cool evenings are the perfect conditions for maple sap to flow. And Fuller’sng sap to make its pure maple products.

We know many of you enjoy tapping your own maple trees. It is a great outdoor family activity that provides a sweet reward for your effort: pure maple syrup. Should you need any supplies – taps, tubes, buckets, lids, etc. – Fuller’s Sugarhouse is your resource for anything that you may need. Learn more and contact us here.

Here’s a few tips before you start. Be sure to pick a healthy, mature maple tree at least 10 inches in diameter. One taphole will produce up to 12 gallons of sap in a season (which boils down to approximately one quart) and larger trees can accommodate more than one tap. Depending upon the weather conditions, sap will start to flow immediately after tapping the tree. Maple sap is a clear, watery fluid. Some days you will collect only a small amount and other days the sap will overflow if not emptied. Collect the sap and keep it chilled until you are ready to boil it down to produce maple syrup.

Good luck – we hope your taps overflow with sweet goodness!

Pure Maple Syrup Leads the Pack

According to research by the Natural Products Industry, maple syrup is emerging as a leading alternative to artificial sweeteners  – and food manufacturers are taking notice. Pure maple syrup delivers more overall nutritional value than many common sweeteners, comes with 40 antioxidants, and has one of the lowest calorie levels, making it appealing to health-conscious consumers.

Fuller’s Sugarhouse is proud to supply its pure maple syrup, sugar, and cream to food and beverage manufacturers, who are already on the maple bandwagon. One of our customers, a chocolatier, is using Fuller’s Sugarhouse pure maple syrup in place of agave to sweeten its chocolate. (This chocolatier also uses our pure maple cream to make its Chocolate Maple Cream Truffles.)

Maple Syrup – the Healthy Sugar Substitute

Granola with Fuller's Sugarhouse maple syrup

Maple Syrup — a Healthier Substitute for Sugar

NH Maple Syrup is a healthier substitute for sugar.Everyone knows that maple syrup is the perfect accompaniment to pancakes, waffles, and French toast. But did you know that maple syrup is a healthier substitute for sugar when you bake and cook? Maple syrup can be used in place of sugar and other sweeteners in marinades, dressings, glazes, baked recipes, cocktails, and more. Our website features many recipes that use Fuller’s Sugarhouse 100% pure maple syrup (and some are shown below).

Maple syrup is better for you than regular sugar. It is a natural, unprocessed product made from tree sap — pure and free of additives or coloring. Sugar is derived from sugar cane, which goes through a long and complex process to be converted into crystalized sugar. Maple syrup contains higher levels of beneficial nutrients, antioxidants. and phytochemicals than white sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Click here to read about more health benefits.

When substituting pure maple syrup for granulated sugars, use 3/4 cup of maple syrup for each cup of granulated sugar you are replacing. Compensate for the added liquid by reducing other liquid ingredients by about 1/4 cup. In salad dressings and other liquids, simply replace sugar with maple syrup instead.

Consider switching sugar and other sweeteners to maple syrup – it tastes great and is better for you!
